- A gear press is for putting pinion gears onto slot car motors. The brass pinions need to be pressed on the shafts of these motors without causing any distortion to the armature shaft. The press has an opening on one end with a depression to accept the pinion gear and the other side has a cupped cradle to accept the armature shaft so you can smoothly press the pinion gear onto the shaft.
