P159 Pioneer Dodge Charger R/T Hemi 426, Red 1:32 Slot Car

At the light a hot ride pulls up alongside - you size it up and give the nod. You've got the cubic inches, the quick shifting gears, the straight line speed... Red to green! Tires screech as you dump your clutch, floor the pedal and slam through the redline shifts. Don't lay off until you know you've won. That's the way it goes down... that's Street Muscle!

'68 DODGE CHARGER R/T
For 1968, Dodge's styling department succeeded gloriously in developing an automobile that combined a fresh sleek design with some very serious horsepower. They had created the company's first real supercar. Recognized by many then and now as the meanest, sexiest, best looking ride on the road, the '68 Charger was available with a wide range of performance, trim and paint options to suit all tastes.

Sport optioned as the R/T (Race/Track), it could be ordered with the legendary 426 Hemi, an engine that when tuned right was nearly unbeatable on road or track - but out of reach for most buyers with its $605 price tag premium. The more popular and more manageable performance option was the 440ci Magnum with a conservative estimate of 375hp it delivered more than enough serious street power. As the Car & Diver road test stated, "here is an automobile that is all guts and purpose.”

Turning heads and stealing the show came easily with a Charger. Eye-catching exterior colors, contrasting vinyl roofs and bold 'bumble bee' rear stripes guaranteed many a second glance from passers-by. Add in a high-styled racing-type fuel filler cap, dual chrome exhausts, stock wheel covers or Mag style chrome rims and the resulting ride demanded instant attention.

The all-new hidden headlamp grill, afterburner tall lights and 'coke bottle' body coupled with a restrained use of chrome established this Charger as a styling high point for the year. A race inspired instrument cluster, sporty center console and groovy pleated seats created one of the zingiest cabin designs ever to come from Dodge's studios.

At its debut Dodge boasted "You wouldn't change a line if you could." The '68 Charger R/T was a seriously cool ride fully worthy of its 'Muscle Car Icon' status.

------

This bright yellow 1968 Hemi 426 Charger continues the series of ‘Street Muscle’ models from Pioneer. The black vinyl roof, R/T badging, black Bumble Bee stripes and Crager mag wheels with red line tires really make this model look the part. The chassis is fitted with the rapid TYPHOON 18K ‘QS’ motor and Supathane tires so this model is a really great track performer.
