P009 Pioneer 1967 Ford Mustang Notchback Coupe Trans-Am Racer SCCA Champion Jerry Titus, #17 1:32 Slot Car
In 1967, Shelby American built a fleet of race-prepared Trans-Am /A-Sedan notchback Mustangs based on the highly successful GT35OR of 1965-66. Most of the 1967 cars went to private owners, but Ford funded Shelby to run a 2-car team in the 1967 Trans-Am Series.
Shelby's lead driver was Jerry Titus, who had won an SCCA B-production national championship in a GT350R. Titus was both a hard-charging driver and the editor of Sports Car Graphic Magazine. By the end of the season, he had won four races in his pale yellow #17 Mustang, making him the biggest contributor to Ford's championship that year. He probably would have won even more races if he hadn't had two major crashes.
As it transpired, the Shelby Mustang team won the championship by only two points over the Bud Moore Mercury Cougar team, which was Ford's main Trans-Am effort for 1967 and was far better funded.
The famous #17 was destroyed in a crash during qualifying for the last race of the season at Pacific Raceways near Seattle, Washington. Titus took over John McComb's privateer Shelby Mustang for the race but retired with a blown engine, leaving teammate Ronnie Bucknum to bring his Mustang home in second place ahead of Dan Gurney's Cougar and provide the final margin of victory in the championship.
The car is complete with a display case and custom artwork packaging.
