P006 Pioneer 1967 Ford Mustang Notchback Coupe Trans-Am Racer Kodekey Electronics, #31 1:32 Slot Car
One of 26 K-Code Mustang coupes prepared by Shelby American in 1967. Car 31 (also sometimes numbered 13 & 40) was kept as a backup car and never raced during the 1967 season. Offered for sale at season end, it was finally purchased by Joe Kramas, owner of KodeKey Electronics of Concord, CA, in July 1968.
With a new KodeKey sponsor livery, the car was raced in a number of Trans-Am races from 1968 & 1969, driven by Bob Barker, Jerry Oliver and Dick Carter. Late on in 1970, the car was sold by Kramas and continued racing in SCCA events, finally making its way into dirt track events where it was heavily modified with a massive roll cage and giant fender cut-outs.
By 1987, the car was in need of total restoration when it was found by Paul Parslow. The decision was made to try and restore the car to 'as delivered' 1967 specs, no simple task due to the lack of original documentation that exists for these early Shelby Coupes.
In early 1996, the car changed owners again — still in need of a total restoration. The new owners, Walt Boeninger and Kerry Hoctor, embarked on this ambitious project, and in a little over a year, after a painstaking and thorough rebuild, Car 31 was returned to the race track, this time the 1997 Monterey Historics event.
As one of the only surviving genuine T/A coupes from 1967, Car 31 is a popular and worthy entrant on the historic Trans Am event calendar.
