MRRC Bill Thomas Cheetah 1965, #36

Bill Thomas was on a mission to beat the Shelby Cobra. So, with funding from General Motors and using all Chevrolet Corvette parts including the small block Chevy V8 bored out to over 6 liters and producing 350 hp in the 1750 pound coupe, he was able to attain speeds of 185 mph at Road America and 215 mph at Daytona. In order to compete with the Cobra in the SCCA class of racing the homologation rules called for 100 cars to be sold to the public. With only 29 ever built before a fire destroyed the Anaheim, California assembly plant and GM's withdrawal from racing, no more were made.
