C2796 Scalextric 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28, #78 1:32 Slot Car
Car owner Tony Toulis and his wife Sassy owned Glades Restaurant, and the lounge at the back was known as Tony’s Back Door. On March 19, 1977, at Sebring, Florida, the car started from the 43rd spot on the grid and finished 11th overall. The team was ecstatic with the finish. The only make of car that beat the #78 Camaro was the Porsche, taking the top 10 positions. Of all the big buck hardware out on the track from all over the world, the lowly, 8-year-old Camaro had beaten everyone else. They had beaten the Ferraris, the Mustangs, and even a few of the mighty Porsches. Essentially, they were the FIRST American-made car across the finish line out of 72 cars that started the race! A massive accomplishment for a privateer team.
