The first Mirage appeared at Le Mans during the April 1967 tests. It was the first prototype created by John Wyer Automotive Engineering which, instead of making a new model, Wyer preferred to improve the GT 40, which had proof in endurance racing before Ford withdrew from the World Championship for makes. The #14 Mirage M1 retires after 59 laps. The #15 Mirage M1 is the eighth car to retire after 29 laps of the race.
